Galway

After a while, I am here again with a new story about my new life.

Today's post is about my trip to Galway. On 22nd September, my first trip outside Limerick took place. At 5pm, my train to Galway departed. While I was sitting on the train, I was imagining the different places of Galway, the people, the weather (not really, it is Ireland, same weather everywhere). Around 8.30 pm, the train arrived to Galway. Like it was at night, I did not really see too much, but I was getting an idea of what I was going to see the next day.

The next morning, I woke up around 10 am after sleeping in one of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in, seriously, it was like being in a cloud. Okay, let's go back to what it is important. That Saturday, I was taken by roommate (she is from Galway, she invited me to stay at her home) to see the beautiful city of Galway.  Our first stop of the day was the NUI Galway.

Like all universities, it has its ancient part and the new one. The ancient part is called the Quadrangle and was opened in 1849. It was built in a Tudor Gothic archaeological style. Nowadays, it is mainly used for administrative things. As you can see in the photo, the Quadrangle is such a beautiful place with all the red ornaments in the walls.

After visiting the university, we went to the centre of Galway. There we saw the Cathedral, the theatre, the streets… and I made new friends.
These are Oscar Wilde and Eduard Vilde sitting in a bench having a conversation. The statue was a gift from the people of Estonia. The statue represents the possible meeting the two great writers had in 1882.

The statue was unvelied in April 2004.
After that, I went to one of the most famous places of Galway. Many of you will know why this place is so famous by just seeing a photo of it because a music video was filmed it. I am talking about the music video by Ed Sheeran called "Galway Girl"

And that was the first day. The next day I went to
BlackRock (the beach). It was pretty awesome
how old and young people were swimming there
in September.  Believe me, the water was not hot and
it was not a sunny day as you can see in the photo.

This was my trip to Galway. I had a great time there, it is a beautiful city with very nice people and great places to visit. I hope to come back as soon as possible.

Until next time Galway - Laura 🎔
